Global Health Education Committee

The Global Health Education Committee (GHEC) is responsible for recommending high-quality, peer-reviewed, CE-eligible programming to support digital health education globally.

Overview

The GHEC consists of a diverse group of HIMSS members who each represent industries, professions, or communities within HIMSS. The planning year for the GHEC runs January through December. Each member serves a three (3) year term.

In order to apply to this committee, you must be a HIMSS member* and have served as a HIMSS proposal reviewer for at least two (2) years. (*chapter-only, student and digital-only memberships do not qualify)

Committee Eligibility Criteria

  • Must be a HIMSS member*.
  • Must be able to serve three (3) consecutive years.
  • Cannot be employed as a market supplier or consultant.
  • Cannot submit proposals during their term of service.
  • Must have participated as a proposal reviewer for at least two (2) years

Additional Eligibility Criteria

Committee Chair and Vice Chair

  • Has been a committee member for at least one year (Chair only).
  • Has regularly attended and contributed to committee meetings.
  • Has strong collaboration skills.
  • Has provided leadership on key deliverables or sub-groups.

GHEC Roles and Responsibilities

GHEC Liaison

  • Partners for Advancing Clinical Education (“Partners”), Continuing Education Accrediting Agency Representative.
    • “Partners” provides a staff member to attend the GHEC planning meeting, optional.
    • The “Partners” representative is a non-voting member that serves in a continuing education consultant role.

Committee Members

  • Participates in all conference calls and committee meetings during the year.
  • Serves as consultants for the development and revision(s) of the HIMSS taxonomy.
  • Functions as primary representatives for assigned topic area(s) to proposal reviewers and HIMSS staff.
  • Reviews and recommends proposals within their assigned topic category.
  • Monitors work and reviews/evaluates results of the proposal reviewers.
  • Provides suggestions on speakers and topics for consideration.
  • Hosts sessions at events, if needed.
  • Attends sessions during events to evaluate them.
  • Ensures that "CE-eligible" content presented at HIMSS events is unbiased and free of commercialism.
  • Supports educational programming around the globe through review processes.
  • Helps to identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats as it relates to educational programming.
  • Advocates for the larger ecosystem by ensuring that HIMSS is developing content and engaging in the conversations that matter to members.

GHEC Vice-Chair

In addition to the committee member responsibilities, the Vice-Chair has the following responsibilities:

  • Serves a one-year term as vice-chair.
  • If GHEC chair is unavailable due to illness, travel, or other commitments, the vice-chair can maintain leadership and decision-making continuity.
  • Accepts delegated responsibilities that are within the strength of the vice-chair.
  • Regularly attends and leads committee meetings when appropriate.
  • Coordinates with HIMSS staff or chair for group deliverables.
  • May be asked to represent HIMSS on "goodwill" collaborations with other organizations or serve on HIMSS special planning and scope projects.

GHEC Chair

In addition to the committee member responsibilities, the Chair has the following responsibilities:

  • Serves a one-year term as Chair.
  • Works with HIMSS staff to develop agendas for the GHEC meetings and conference calls.
  • Serves as facilitator in all conference calls and committee meetings during the year.
  • Assures committee members are apprised of all committee business, and that they adhere to assigned projects and meet targeted project dates.
  • Provides feedback and counsel to HIMSS staff and committee members.
  • Facilitates collaboration and resolves conflicts.
  • May be asked to represent HIMSS on "goodwill" collaborations with other organizations or serve on HIMSS special planning and scope projects.
