The HIMSS Physician Committee assembles a global collective of dedicated experts to provide expertise, leadership and guidance to health informatics activities, initiatives and collaborations.
Overview
- Network with others from diverse backgrounds and worksites.
- Share thought leadership on policy items and contribute to HIMSS’s submissions in response to comments.
- Engage ad hoc support to obtain specific subject matter expertise.
- Provide guidance on HIMSS informatics activities, initiatives and collaborations.

How can you participate?
Our thought leaders develop resources to influence the transformation of healthcare. The committee is an exclusive benefit for HIMSS members. Applicants are selected during our annual Call for Committee Volunteers. Positions are available on a two-year rotation for HIMSS members in good standing. Advancing Device Connectivity: How the Argonaut Project is Powering FHIR-First Interoperability
Join us for a deep dive into the Argonaut Project and how it’s advancing medical device interoperability through FHIR-based APIs. HIMSS Physician Committee member, Harm Scherpbier, MD, MS, FHIMSS, FAMIA, will lead an informative discussion with Josh Mandel, MD, Chief Architect for Health at Microsoft Research, and a key figure on the Argonaut Project. HIMSS Physician Committee member Spotlight: David Lee Scher, MD, FACP, FACC, FHRS, FESC
This week, we are pleased to highlight Dr. David Scher, a dedicated member of the HIMSS Physician Committee. Dr. Scher serves as CEO, President, Owner, and Chairman of DLS Healthcare Consulting, LLC. He is also a Board Member of the HIMSS Delaware Valley Chapter and has previously served on the Clinical Burden Reduction Task Force. In addition, Dr. Scher has been a content reviewer for the HIMSS Global Health Conference for several years.

We are pleased to highlight Dr. Jorge Ferrer, a valued member of the 2025 HIMSS Physician Committee. Dr. Ferrer serves as an Informatics Health System Specialist with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and holds a faculty appointment as an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the UTHealth School of Biomedical Informatics.

Our June 2025 spotlight features Dr. Toyin Falola, a dedicated leader who began her career in community-based patient care and healthcare leadership in Northern California. After witnessing the persistent challenges of clinician burnout, limited patient access, and strained care delivery systems, Dr. Falola made a strategic shift into health technology. Today, she serves as the AVP of Clinical Product Strategy for Providence’s Virtual Care and Digital Health Organization.
