Anfas Medical Care Hospital Sets New Standards in Long-Term Care

Anfas Medical Care Hospital in Riyadh has reached a major milestone by achieving Stage 6 validation on the HIMSS Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model (EMRAM). Its pioneering approach has set a new benchmark for long-term care in the Kingdom and has placed it at the forefront of digital health innovation in long-term care.

Established just four years ago, Anfas Medical Care Hospital is Saudi Arabia’s first long-term care facility, dedicated to treating patients with complex pulmonary conditions who require mechanical ventilation. From its inception, the hospital has focused on delivering high-quality, patient-centered care by leveraging the latest medical technologies.

The facility provides a comprehensive range of post-acute services, including respiratory therapy, physiotherapy and rehabilitation, long-term care, intensive care and dialysis. By integrating advanced electronic medical record systems into these services, Anfas has enhanced continuity of care, improved clinical outcomes, and ensured more efficient workflows for healthcare professionals.

Earning Stage 6 validation reflects the organization’s ability to meaningfully use digital health systems to support clinical decision-making, strengthen patient safety and optimize care delivery. As a pioneer in the long-term care model, Anfas Medical Care Hospital is now redefining what patient-centered care can look like for this unique population, marking a significant step forward in the hospital’s journey.

"Receiving an EMRAM Stage 6 validation is a significant milestone that reflects Anfas Medical Care Hospital’s unwavering commitment to digital transformation and excellence in patient care,” said Dr. Riyadh Alorf, Medical Director of Anfas Medical Care. “This recognition highlights our strategic efforts to implement advanced health information systems that support clinical effectiveness, safety and operational efficiency.”

Anfas Medical Care Hospital is also the first long-term care facility in the EMEA region to undertake the modernized EMRAM22 framework. A Stage 6 validation demonstrates the facility’s advancement in its digital maturity and has shown how innovation and dedication can transform healthcare delivery for some of their most vulnerable patients. This hospital’s validation was supported by IQVIA, a leading global provider of clinical research services, commercial insights, and healthcare intelligence for the life sciences and healthcare industries, as well as the HIMSS Digital Health Technology Partner in the Middle East, during their baseline assessment and validation preparation.

"Anfas Hospital’s HIMSS EMRAM Stage 6 accreditation marks a transformative milestone, not just for the institution, but for the broader healthcare ecosystem in the region. IQVIA is proud to have played a pivotal role in this journey, delivering not only a robust HIS solution but also the strategic guidance and operational rigor needed to meet global standards. This achievement reflects the power of collaboration, perseverance, and a shared commitment to digital excellence in healthcare," added Samir Hawa, Vice President of Health Systems Services for AMESA at IQVIA.

Mariam Shokralla, a digital health strategist at HIMSS, validated the hospital at Stage 6 and stated: “At Anfas Medical Care, I witnessed the future of post-acute services in Saudi Arabia. In just four years, this organization has redefined care beyond the walls of a nursing home, embracing rehabilitation, dialysis, and palliative care with vision, purpose and a transformative digital infrastructure.”

HIMSS congratulates Anfas Medical Care Hospital in Riyadh for this significant milestone in their healthcare innovation journey.
