Global Health Equity Week 2026: Turning Equity from Aspiration into ActionÂ
Since 2019, HIMSS has piloted Global Health Equity Week as an annual call to ensure that every advancement in digital health contributes to more equitable access, outcomes, and opportunity. On Nov. 9-13, HIMSS will unite leaders and advocates across the healthcare ecosystem to share knowledge and inspire collective action.
This year, Global Health Equity Week will focus on five key dimensions of progress, pairing insight with practical solutions that organizations can implement and measure.
Monday: AI for Everyone: Ensuring Innovation Reaches Every Community
AI is rapidly reshaping healthcare, but its benefits will not be equitable by default. This theme explores how health systems, technology leaders and policymakers can ensure AI improves access and outcomes across communities, while addressing bias, uneven digital infrastructure, language access and the risk of leaving underserved populations behind.
Tuesday: Indigenous and Tribal Health: Advancing Digital Sovereignty and Community-Led Care
Technology can expand access to care, but lasting progress starts with solutions shaped by the communities they serve. This theme centers Indigenous and Tribal perspectives on digital health, including data sovereignty, telehealth, infrastructure, workforce development and community-led innovation that respects culture, governance and local priorities.
Wednesday: Veterans Health: Building Better Care for Those Who Served
Veterans bring distinct experiences and healthcare needs that demand systems designed to meet them. On Veterans Day, Global Health Equity Week will focus exclusively on veterans health, exploring how digital health, interoperability, mental and behavioral health services, community care, workforce pathways and innovation can improve access, continuity and outcomes for veterans and their families.
Thursday: Policy at the Point of Care: When Policy Determines Access
Policy decisions do not stay on paper. They shape whether people can access virtual care, afford services, protect their health information and benefit from emerging technologies. This theme examines how public policy, regulation and investment translate into real access and outcomes, with a focus on building digital health systems that work across communities.
Friday: The Geography of Health: Closing the Distance to Care
Where someone lives still shapes what care they can reach, which specialists are available and which technologies they can use. This theme explores how digital health can overcome geographic barriers across rural, remote, frontier and underserved communities through virtual care, connected health, stronger infrastructure and new models that bring care closer to people.
Through collaboration, education, and advocacy, Global Health Equity Week transforms shared vision into tangible progress.
