Global Health Equity Week Explores Digital Inclusion and Workforce Development

Global Health Equity Week 2025 continues Thursday, Nov. 13, focusing on the theme of Digital Inclusion and the Global Workforce: Closing Gaps in Access and Opportunity. The day’s programming touches on strategies to equip health professionals with the tools, training and infrastructure needed to thrive in a digital-first era.

Furthering a commitment to health equity, the HIMSS Foundation is launching the HIMSS Foundation Professional Certification Grant Program, an initiative designed to strengthen the global health workforce by expanding access to professional advancement in digital health. The grant program aims to continue the HIMSS mission to advance global health equity by expanding access to digital health careers, helping remove economic barriers to entering or advancing in the health information and technology field.

HIMSS TV programming expands the day’s theme with expert interviews. In Bridging the Rural Maternity Care Gap with Telehealth, Dr. Sy Saeed discusses how North Carolina’s MOTHeRS Project connects high-risk pregnant women in rural areas to specialized care through telehealth. In Using Technology to Bridge Care Gaps in Indigenous Canada, Dr. Ivar Mendez shares how Canada’s Virtual Health Hub is expanding access for Indigenous communities. Building Digital Bridges to Increase Health Equity features Renee Broadbent of SoNE HEALTH, who highlights partnerships improving culturally sensitive care and treatment access.

The HIMSS Clinician Burden Reduction Task Force Toolkit is also featured, offering surveys, templates and action plans to help healthcare leaders identify and reduce clinician burden, supporting a more sustainable and engaged workforce.

Global Health Equity Week’s featured resources highlight the HIMSS community’s efforts to bridge the digital divide through education, equity and innovation.
