Global Health Equity Week Member Spotlight: Holly Miller
During Global Health Equity Week, we’re highlighting members who are driving change in their communities. For Holly Miller, health equity is both a personal and professional mission. Inspired by her family’s experiences navigating the healthcare system, she has dedicated her career to making quality care accessible to all. At Collette Health, Holly leads efforts to expand virtual care, empower care teams, and ensure every patient feels seen and supported, no matter where they are.
HIMSS: What does health equity mean to you in your work?
Health equity is personal to me.
I cared for my father, a veteran who struggled to access consistent support, and I watched my mother go without the specialists she needed. Those experiences shaped how I see the gaps in our system. They remind me that care should never depend on where you live, who you know, or how much you can pay. At Collette Health, our mission is to make virtual care accessible everywhere by supporting nurses and teams who deliver it. Health equity begins when every patient feels seen, safe, and cared for, no matter the setting.
HIMSS: What advice would you give to others working to drive innovation and equity in health IT?
Listen first.
Innovation starts with understanding bedside realities. The best advancements occur when technology aligns with clinical practice. Human-centered design ensures every virtual interaction enhances connection, safety, and trust. By focusing on people over processes, we pave the way to equity.
HIMSS: Looking to the future, what gives you hope about the role of technology in advancing global health equity?
I see hope in technology's ability to bring care closer to those in need. When used wisely, it enhances the care experience rather than hindering it. The virtual care loop helps nurses, patients, and families stay connected in real time. This closes gaps that geography or staffing once created. Each step toward connection leads us to a fairer system of care.
