HIMSS has collaborated with the Project Management Institute to launch a compelling new podcast mini-series that explores how artificial intelligence is transforming healthcare.

Produced as part of PMI’s AI Today podcast, this three-part series spotlights critical conversations at the intersection of technology, clinical practice, and innovation strategy featuring HIMSS experts and industry partners.

In the premiere episode, Rob Havasy, Senior Director of Informatics Strategy at HIMSS, joined AI Today host Kathleen Walch, Director of AI Engagement and Community at PMI, to examine the sweeping impact of AI across the healthcare ecosystem.

This episode dives into how AI tools are helping address persistent workforce shortages through automation, ambient listening and intelligent documentation and how AI accelerates data analysis, drawing insights from the 95% of healthcare data that has historically gone unused.

Havasy highlights the potential for AI to enhance administrative workflows, streamline supply chains and optimize time for overburdened clinicians, all while enabling more human-centered care. The episode also tackles key industry challenges, including regulatory uncertainty, the risks of overhype and the need for leadership to guide ethical AI adoption.

Havasy shared his hope for AI: “The great hope for the clinical side of AI is that we finally have systems that can begin to look at volumes of data this large to find patterns and identify new treatment pathways, or new possible cures, based on all of this data that we've been collecting for years.”
