HIMSS UK & Ireland Community Launches Nationwide Clinical Informatics Maturity Survey

The HIMSS UK & Ireland Community has launched a new nationwide survey designed to capture the current state of clinical informatics across the health systems of England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. The Clinical Informatics Maturity Survey, now open for participation, seeks to build a comprehensive picture of how clinical informatics teams are structured, staffed and supported within healthcare organizations.

Clinical informatics teams play a vital role in advancing digital transformation, enabling the safe use of data, and ensuring that digital tools directly support better patient care. These teams typically bring together clinicians with a blend of expertise in digital health, data analysis, and change management, enabling them to bridge the gap between clinical practice and technology.

Through the survey, the HIMSS UK & Ireland Community is seeking to better understand how these teams are established and resourced, the professional backgrounds of those working within them, the use and impact of EPR systems, and the ways in which clinical informatics contributes to digital maturity across healthcare organizations. The study aims to provide a foundation for strengthening and supporting this essential workforce.

The survey is open to digital health leaders, clinical informatics professionals and senior clinicians engaged in digital delivery.

Insights from the Clinical Informatics Maturity Survey will inform future strategies to build, sustain, and grow the clinical informatics workforce, ensuring health systems across the UK and Ireland are equipped to deliver digital health transformation.
