HIMSS26 Europe Shapes Healthcare's Future Through Collaborative Innovation



Almost 2,000 professionals from more than 70 countries explored groundbreaking innovations, learned from global experts and made new connections at the 2026 HIMSS European Health Conference and Exhibition, hosted May 19-21 in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Across 85 sessions, more than 200 speakers shared real-world insights and bold ideas. Through implementation insights, real adoption timelines and the evidence driving solutions to scale, the powerful program delivered a clearer picture of how AI in healthcare is performing today.


Global leaders from HIMSS Communities shared regional lessons and best practices on key priorities including AI, digital maturity, cybersecurity, workforce transformation and connected care. Community members also fostered collaboration and connectedness across the European health ecosystem through informal meetups, network receptions and themed gatherings.

Sessions at the HIMSS Connect Stage built a culture of shared excellence through several highly attended sessions on best practices in AI, cybersecurity, business continuity and disaster recovery, continuum of care and workforce development. HIMSS launched its first-ever HIMSS Stage 6 & 7 Leadership Forum, bringing together an exclusive network of healthcare leaders from the most digitally advanced hospitals in Europe and the Middle East, with further collaboration initiatives coming soon.

HIMSS Interoperability Showcase® highlighted the critical role of standards in healthcare innovation, which enables connected cross-border care and supports the European Health Data Space (EHDS). The showcase also highlighted the secure exchange of patient summaries, diagnostic images, and clinical data to improve care coordination and reduce healthcare fragmentation.

 

The conference shaped Europe’s healthcare future through collaborative innovation. The HIMSS European Projects Initiative featured six EU-funded projects: Assess DHT, INSAFEDARE, SiGenES, UNITE, XiA and XShare. The initiative gathering shared how innovation is advancing alongside the conditions required for successful uptake. Discussions showed the positioning of European projects as both drivers and enablers of system readiness.

The 2027 HIMSS European Health Conference and Exhibition will take place in Barcelona, Spain, from 8-10 June 2027.

Hal Wolf, HIMSS President & CEO, predicted in an interview with HIMSS TV that the 2027 event will illuminate a year of experience with AI applications and operations, the development and impact of the AI Act and more experience with AI solutions leveraged in conjunction with clinical decision support.
