Nine Key Programme Themes Announced for the 2026 HIMSS European Conference & Exhibition

The 2026 HIMSS European Conference & Exhibition will convene Europe’s digital health community in Copenhagen on 19-21 May, bringing together leaders, innovators and policymakers committed to advancing smarter, safer and more connected healthcare. As the region’s most influential health conference, HIMSS26 will serve as a catalyst for collaboration and actional digital health transformation across Europe’s health ecosystem.

Registration for HIMSS26 Europe is open. This year’s educational programme is built around nine themes that reflect the most pressing challenges facing healthcare today. These focus areas will shape three days of thought leaders, case studies, panel discussions and strategic insights designed to support digital transformation in healthcare.

  • From Bias to Breakthrough: Redefining Women’s Health with Data

Women’s health is gaining long-overdue global investment, yet significant gaps remain in how systems understand and serve women across their lifespans. This theme will examine how sex- and gender-specific data, national strategies and digital tools are driving more equitable outcomes. These sessions will highlight innovations that transform women’s health from a neglected area into a foundation for systemic progress.

  • Cybersecurity: Securing Health in an Age of Relentless Threats

As cyberattacks intensify, protecting patient data and clinical operations has become a defining challenge for modern healthcare. This theme will move beyond headlines to explore real-world breaches, organisational lessons and the human impact of security failures.

  • Trial, Error, Triumph: Redefining Healthcare Innovation

Innovation in healthcare is rarely linear, and progress is often hard-earned through iteration, partnership and persistence. This theme explores what it truly takes to design, implement and scale digital solutions that deliver measurable impact.

  • Optimized Systems, Saner Workflows: Building Safe, Smart AI for Care

With regulatory requirements tightening and adoption barriers still in place, AI is entering a pivotal moment in European healthcare. This theme will focus on practical, evidence-based examples of AI improving workflow efficiency, staff experience and patient outcomes. Discussions will also cover trust-building, data governance and approaches to deploying AI responsibly and safely.

  • Act, Adapt, Advance: What’s Next for Digital Health Regulation

The European Health Data Space is reshaping how information flows across the continent, bringing new obligations and opportunities for providers and vendors. This theme will examine the pathway to EHDS compliance, including interoperability requirements, certification processes and national implementation considerations.

  • Transforming Systems, Not Just Software: Building Cultures of Continuous Transformation

Digital maturity depends as much on culture and leadership as on technology. This theme explores how health systems are shifting from aspiration to measurable progress, supported by workforce development, maturity models and value-based approaches. Speakers will share strategies for embedding transformation into everyday practice and sustaining long-term improvement.

  • Shared Vision, Shared Value: Redefining Leadership for Change

Effective leadership in healthcare increasingly requires system-wide thinking, cross-sector coordination and shared accountability. This theme will feature leaders who are shaping collaborative, equitable and data-driven transformation across complex environments. Attendees will gain actionable insights into navigating change while delivering meaningful impact for patients and populations.

  • Healing or Harming? The Double Edge of Digital Mental Health

Digital tools play a growing role in mental health. This theme will bring a balanced, evidence-focused look at telepsychiatry, virtual support platforms, and the potential harms linked to poorly designed digital experiences. Sessions will explore ethical safeguards, algorithmic considerations and strategies to ensure digital mental health solutions support wellbeing rather than undermine it.

  • The Future is Local: The Rise of Connected Community Care

Care delivery is shifting toward homes, neighbourhoods and digitally enabled community settings. This theme will highlight how connected technologies, integrated data and virtual care models are strengthening prevention, continuity and personalised care.
