Unity Health Toronto Earns EMRAM and AMAM Stage 6 Validations

Unity Health Toronto has achieved Stage 6 validations on both the Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model (EMRAM) and the Analytics Maturity Assessment Model (AMAM), becoming the first organization in North America to achieve AMAM Stage 6 under the modernized version of the model.

During the HIMSS validation process, Unity Health demonstrated measurable outcomes from its digital transformation, including reductions in unnecessary blood draws through a lab add-on program and significant decreases in nonessential clinical alerts to address alert fatigue.

HIMSS maturity models provide a globally recognized framework for healthcare organizations to assess and optimize their use of health information and technology. EMRAM evaluates the adoption and effective use of electronic medical records to support clinical care, while AMAM measures analytics capabilities, data governance and the ability to generate actionable insight.

“Achieving both EMRAM Stage 6 and AMAM Stage 6 within one year of go-live is a rare accomplishment,” said Dr. Jill Seys, Senior Director of Analytics at HIMSS. “Unity Health has demonstrated strong clinical leadership, effective governance and a clear commitment to using digital tools and analytics to improve patient care, safety and operational performance.”

Unity Health’s EMRAM Stage 6 validation marks the first time all three of its sites have reached the second-highest level on the model. “This achievement demonstrates how Unity Health is using digital tools to make care more connected, transparent and data-driven,” said Altaf Stationwala, President and CEO of Unity Health Toronto. “Our teams are using data and analytics to support quality improvement, strengthen safety and guide operational decisions that benefit patients and staff.”

These recognitions reflect Unity Health’s advanced use of digital health technologies, data and analytics to support quality, safety and patient outcomes.

With EMRAM and AMAM Stage 6 validations achieved, Unity Health is now working toward Stage 7, the highest level on the maturity models, which recognizes fully optimized use of digital systems and measurable improvements in outcomes.
