Sessions focused on cybersecurity at HIMSS25 Europe brought into focus the growing complexity and urgency of cyber threats in healthcare. Experts emphasized that cyber risks are now a core component of patient safety and system resilience.

Session discussions covered the EU’s new five-pillar cybersecurity strategy which emphasizes proactive governance, rapid incident response and multi-sector coordination.

AI was discussed as both a risk and a resource. While it can be used maliciously to scale threats, it can also power advanced threat detection and response systems. The key is embedding AI tools within strong governance frameworks.

Ultimately, experts called for a cultural shift. Healthcare organizations must move beyond reactive security approaches and instead embed cybersecurity into strategic planning, technology procurement and day-to-day operations.
