Invisible Architects: How APPs Are Shaping the Future of Digital Health

Join the HIMSS TIGER Global Community Meeting Series, a monthly webinar that brings together healthcare professionals, thought leaders, and innovators from around the world. This series provides a unique platform for members of the TIGER (Technology Informatics for Global Education Readiness) community to collaborate, share knowledge, and discuss the latest trends in healthcare technology and informatics.

Each meeting will feature updates from our committee liaisons, insightful discussions, and opportunities to connect with fellow members, ensuring you stay at the forefront of digital health advancements. Whether you're looking to expand your professional network, enhance your knowledge, or contribute to shaping the future of healthcare, the HIMSS TIGER Global Community Meeting Series is the perfect opportunity for you.

During the July HIMSS TIGER Global Community Meeting, Rhiannon Doherty, DHA, APRN, CHCIO, Director of Usability & Clinical Optimization, and Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner will discuss how Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) are increasingly central to the delivery of safe, efficient, and equitable care—but they remain underrepresented in the digital spaces shaping that care. This talk challenges the traditional boundaries of informatics leadership by spotlighting how APPs are already driving innovation in clinical decision support, data validation, and digital workflow redesign—often informally and invisibly. Attendees will leave with a clear understanding of the systemic barriers APPs face in health IT, and actionable strategies for bringing their insight into algorithmic governance, digital equity, and interdisciplinary design

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe the current and emerging roles of Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) in healthcare informatics and data analytics, including contributions to clinical decision support, workflow redesign, and digital health transformation.
  • Analyze the barriers that limit APP engagement in informatics leadership, including workforce development gaps, credentialing biases, and exclusion from governance models.
  • Discuss potential actionable strategies that HIMSS and TIGER can do to elevate APPs as key stakeholders in digital health innovation, including inclusive participation pathways, interprofessional collaboration, and mentorship.
