The rapid advancements and widespread adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) are transforming healthcare systems and clinical practice. Nurse informaticists (NIs) play a critical role in integrating nursing practice, information technology, and data science to advance innovations that optimize workflows and enhance safety and quality of care. NIs are essential to ensure that patient care information and communication technologies are clinically relevant, effectively utilized, and aligned with ethical and professional standards. In the context of the evolving role of NIs, particularly in the AI era, a need exists to establish defined competencies for effective practice in diverse healthcare settings.
