Using Health Data Right

The Using Health Data Right track at HIMSS25 Europe in Paris centered on the ethical and equitable use of health data, particularly in the context of AI deployment and the European Health Data Space. While the EHDS provides a solid infrastructure for data exchange, programming stressed that trust, transparency and patient engagement remain critical to its success.

A major focus was placed on the growing importance of patient-reported outcomes measures and patient-reported experience measures, or PROMs and PREMs, respectively. These help elevate the patient voice in clinical care and system design. Subject matter experts emphasized the needs for meaningful patient consent and the importance of building data governance frameworks that embed equity and public involvement at every level.

Only by addressing the systematic flaws in how data is collected, managed and governed can the healthcare sector realize the full potential of AI and digital innovation to improve outcomes across Europe.
