Digital Health Assessment of the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services
Michigan’s public health system is seeking to advance progress of its strategy for digital health transformation. Recognizing the essential role of Local Public Health Departments (LPHD) and Tribal health systems in protecting and promoting population health, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS), in partnership with the Michigan Public Health Institute (MPHI), undertook a comprehensive assessment of the progress of digitally enabled public health services and operations capacity across 38 of the LPHD teams, nine Tribal health department teams, and one State-level team.

Missouri DHSS Data Landscape Survey, Maturity Evaluation and Strategic Assessment
The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS, “the department”) sought to achieve a comprehensive understanding of the public health data landscape across the department in its divisions, offices, bureaus and programs as well as with their community partners. The department desired a strategic assessment of their public health data, analytics and technology to provide a foundation for future improvement initiatives. The department contracted with Guidehouse, Inc. (“study team”) and its strategic partner, the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), to undertake a statewide effort to identify, describe, map and visualize the current state of public health information practices and technology in the context of departmental operations, external relationships and the statewide public health information ecosystem. Collectively, these efforts made up the Data Landscape Survey, Maturity Evaluation and Strategic Assessment Project (“the project,” “strategic assessment”).

Synthesised with longitudinal NHS England Digital Maturity Assessments (DMA), the What Good Looks Like (WGLL) framework, and HIMSS EMRAM™ benchmarking, the evidence suggests digital maturity is shaped by both technology adoption and sustained investment.
